Once you have downloaded and installed XAMPP in your local, you can add virtual host to your individual site so that you can access the site using custom urls rather than the traditional long urls.

Follow the steps below to set up virtual host

  1. Open "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" and edit the "host" file
  2. At the bottom of the file append the following line
127.0.0.1       {mysite.local}
  1. Open "xampp\apache\conf\extra" and edit "httpd-vhosts.conf" file
  2. At the botton of file append the following lines

   DocumentRoot "xampp/htdocs/{myproject}"
   ServerName {mysite.local}

You will have to add the correct path to your docroot and the desired url.
