  1. Apache solr has dependency in Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Check for the current JRE version in your system
java -version
  1. Download apache solr package from "http://lucene.apache.org/solr/"

  2. Unzip the package by using the folliwng command

tar -zxvf {filename}
  1. Locate the unzip folder to the desired location in your system. For example if you want to move the package to C:/ then type the following command
mv {foldername} C:/
  1. For starting apache solr, go to the bin folder
cd SOLR/bin
  1. Start apache solr
solr start -p 8983

Apache solr shoud be locally running and ready for use. You can access solr using your browser by typing the following command
localhost:8983/solr/
